Bump Update: Full Term with #3!

I'm still pinching myself that I'm about to have another baby. I mean I feel super pregnant, and beyond ready to have baby earth side, but it still seems surreal that we are going to have another little one!

This pregnancy has been extra special. Don't get me wrong, the first two were just as great, but there's something about this time that has me feeling extra gratitude for this beautiful experience a third time around.

I think it's because going in to this pregnancy, I knew myself better. Both as a mom and as a women -- as myself. The constant learning and growing as we go through life gave me time to desire this experience. To not just think 'I'll have a baby someday' but to truly long for another baby in our lives.

I had my ups and downs about this but in the end our story seems to have gone perfectly as to bless us with another child. And that's why I'm so grateful.

I'm super excited for how this time will be different... with more experience, bigger kids, and new appreciation.

As for now, I'm trying my best to be patient and let nature take it's course. Keeping that gratitude in mind and praying for an easy and joyful labour and delivery.

Treated myself to a mani + mcflurry this week! Is your guess PINK or BLUE for baby? ;)

I only wrote one other pregnancy post this time and haven't shared any fun pregnancy ramblings. So, since we're 10 days away from estimated arrival why not do a little bump Q&A?!

Changes?
Weight gain? About 30 lb!
Stretch marks? None... but as mentioned in my last post, I learned of varicose veins and their commonality in pregnancy this time around... according to my doctor, they typically disappear once the pressure of baby's head is gone.

Signs of labour?
- Cramps as of last week but nothing too intense or regular. I didn't have many early contractions for the girls so when I started feeling these last week, the day Matthew left for work, I got super anxious thinking it was the real deal!
- About 2-3 cm dilated at my 38 week check up and lots of low pressure from baby's head.

Craving?
- Breakfast foods! Oats, cereal, granola. Anything nut butter/banana.
- Sweet tooth goes and comes but it's more for chocolate or fruit.

Feeling?
Much more relaxed the past couple days! My MIL arrived on Saturday and Matthew decided to fly home early and landed Monday evening. It's a relief to have both of them here, mentally and physically. I've been taking it much easier than usual lately. Thankful for time to lie down when I need it and extra hands to help with the girls and things around the house.

I'm also so excited about baby's gender being a surprise! It's been such a cool experience not knowing who is growing in there. I think it's going to be an amazing part of delivery!

Sleeping?

Tough call. The past couple months have not been the best in the sleep department. I was logging good rest hours but was dealing with sore hips and leg cramps. Constantly turning side to side with pillows for support because I found it much harder to rest on my left side for the whole night this time. Since going to a prenatal chiropractor a few weeks ago, my pain has really improved. Now my problem seems to be more insomnia, cramps or baby moving too much to sleep. I don't know if its adrenalin kicking in or my body preparing for the lack of sleep that's about to hit... but it's so strange to be tired and not able to sleep. Like I said though, I've been napping or atleast lying down every day for the past week so that helps too!

"Preggo Problems"

- Picking up anything that falls on the floor... and attempting to play Frisbee with Halle ha!
- Lacking shirts to cover the bump
- Brain fog (trying to think of problems because there's definitely more laughable things...)

That's pretty much it! Here's hoping the next update will be baby's arrival and birth story (I love reading and writing these!)

Happy hump day!

Thanks, as always, for following along XO

Friday Five

4/27/2018

If you follow along on Instagram (@katiekeepshealthy), you may have seen I started a new fitness challenge this week. It’s Lauren Gleisberg’s Confidencekini 5 week fitness, food and lifestyle challenge! I’m following the free daily workouts (with prenatal modifications ;)) on her blog. She’s also been posting some great tips and reads on all things health and happiness. Each day has a photo challenge to share on IG. Today’s post was her Friday Five and I decided to write a blog of my own to share my 5 random things I’m in to lately!

Picture

1. Fitness Communities

Since I’m kind of already talking about it, my first thing is fitness challenges + communities! I have found tons of encouragement since I stepped out of my comfort zone and started sharing more of my healthy lifestyle journey online. It’s brought connection with likeminded others which is something I crave, yet was lacking before! Over my pregnancy I’ve “met” tons of mamas in a similar stage who are also keeping active. I’m truly grateful for their support and inspiration.

Lately, the communities I follow most are Tone It Up and LG. TIU has their annual Bikini Series starting in May and the team is buzzing with excitement! I’ll be mostly following along the nutrition plan and the soon-to-be released new recipes with this series. Leading up to baby time, I decided to jump back in to workouts following LG! I’m having to modify a lot but it feels great to be moving again! I shared more about my reason for slowing down workouts, over the past couple months, in this post. I love Lauren’s down to earth, honest personality, plus she’s a mama! Her workouts are awesome and she is very generous with her programs and content.

2. Oat Bowls for Breakfast
Picture

Speaking of keeping healthy, I’m SO hungry these days. My overall eating is fairly clean but I definitely have more “treats” as of late, and eat often ;) My go to breakfast (when I don’t meal prep) is oat bowls!

The base is quick oats, unsweetened coconut, 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein and unsweetened almond milk that I mix and microwave for 1.5 minutes. The toppings are easy to switch up but my usual is something like: a drizzle of pure maple syrup, flax seeds, almond butter, nuts/seeds and chopped fruit/berries.

Super delish, fuelling + filling!

3. Playgrounds + Picnics With the Girls
Picture

Spring has finally sprung in Calgary and we have been loving the warmer temperatures lately! It’s made these days with the girls, before baby, even better because of all the outside time. We have been visiting favourite parks + playgrounds every day... and have been enjoying maybe a little too many treats in celebration of the sunshine ;)

We went for lunch + frozen yogurt on the weekend and yesterday they rode their bikes over to the shopping corner for ice cream! Another thing we’ve been doing is snack picnics outside. Usually a tray of fruit and some other munchies!

I find times like these make such a difference to our day and mood. I’m truly soaking it up and pumped for summer!

4. Fixer Upper

I’m kind of late to the party on this one! I actually have hardly watched much tv in years. There’s no shows I watch regularly and I very rarely sit down to watch tv. I just don’t care for it anymore... but over pregnancy I would sit every now and then to watch a show with Matthew. The other day I happened on an episode of Fixer Upper. Which I had obviously heard of, and was aware of the Gaines’, Magnolia and all their popularity, but I’ve never actually watched.

Anyway, the next day I felt “in the mood” to watch it again. So I set the PVR to record episodes. Then nearly every night this week, while Matthew was away at work, I sat down when the girls went to bed and watched an episode. It’s so out of my norm and habits! Honestly before that I would go to bed soon after the girls... but now, although part of me wants to prioritize rest, I’ve been staying up even later and relaxing this way instead. It’s different for me but hey it IS relaxing. And I can totally see why everyone loves them! My whole “nesting” stage may have something to do with my interest in this too ;)

5. AGX Skin + Jojoba Oil
Picture

My final thing I’m loving lately is my skincare routine. AGX skin is the first essential oil blend I tried when I switched to using améo. I have been mixing it with this jojoba oil and apply it morning and night. The biggest change I’ve seen is my skin is smoother and pore size is smaller. It also aids in minimizing sun spots and skin imperfections. I love the smell and find it so comforting. I also love this jojoba, which I actually hadn’t tried before. It’s great for skincare blending and can be used to naturally remove makeup!

Picture

There you have it 5 random things I’m loving lately! Plus one more -- the girls request for "moose" and "bear" hair today ^^^ Make-up artistry all on their own...

I definitely have more than 5 other posts brainstorming in my head but I just haven’t made writing a priority this month. Hoping to share more soon... in the meantime stay connected on Insta or follow along on Facebook. I have plans to start sharing more there soon too :)

Easter Recap

4/16/2018

We are somehow three weeks in to April and this is my first post of the month! Better late than never to recap our Easter week. Sometimes updates feel too far gone but there’s too many cute pictures not to share. And when I thought about it, this month has kind of been everything I set out for it to be — quality time as a family. As much as I think there’s so much to do, or I’d like to do, before baby, having this time with the girls is why I ended work earlier.

The weekend started off with a visit to the Easter Bunny at Southcentre on Saturday. I thought we would just “say hi” but when Halle wanted in for a picture and Autumn didn’t, it took me snuggling up to the Bunny to get a photo with both of them. We did some colouring after, grabbed a snack and made a wish in the fountain. It was a fun little afternoon together!

Picture

That night was my turn to play Bunny ;) I love putting together little goodie baskets! And hiding the eggs is fun, too. Matthew’s tradition was to have chocolate egg ‘trails’ leading from his bed to a gift basket. Mine was an egg hunt all over the house. So we do both at our house and the girls have a blast!

They also get spoiled with parcels in the mail from grandparents!

After a morning of chocolate for breakfast and playing with new toys, Matthew got cooking jigs dinner! A favourite meal from home in our house.

We were also excited about the arrival of Matthew’s cousin and family who were road tripping from Washington that day to spend Spring Break with us! (We visited them a couple summers ago. You can read about it here.)

Since we have no family in town, I love any chance we get to spend holidays with company! It’s so fun to have a house full of cousins to play together.

They only had a few days in the city and we kept busy with sight seeing.

On Monday we joined them at the science centre and on Wednesday we bundled up and braved the cold at the zoo! They had spent Tuesday visiting Drumheller to see the dinosaur exhibits.

It was our coldest Easter in Calgary and we still had tons of snow after a long winter. Although we were so over it, they enjoyed seeing our Canadian winter ;) since they live in desert territory.

It was a quick visit but all the outings, yummy take out dinners and time together was great! I think next time we’ll meet in the middle, somewhere warmer... and we’ll have one more little cousin to join us!

Since then, Spring seems to have finally arrived in Calgary *knock on wood* The snow is disappearing and the temperatures are on the up and up. We are all very much ready for it! We’ve continued to enjoy lots of family time, including celebrating Halle’s 5th birthday and getting our home baby ready! I’ve shared snippets of that on Instagram and might find time for a post here.

There’s so much I’d like to share but what matters most is the motto behind this blog to chase fun, choose time and cherish family. Sometimes that means being present and soaking up time together which is exactly what we need in this season.

In the meantime, I’ve created a Facebook page for the blog! I’m excited to use this platform to share more and build community. I have lots of dreams for creating something more than a blog with this space. It would be great for you to follow the adventure!

As always, thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing more regular posts and a new vlog again soon! XO
