Some how four months have passed since my second sweetie was born.
I've been keeping a running note about her growth and changes in my phone. As each month passes I have been changing the beginning line to read Autumn turned 2 months, then 3 months, now we're at 4 months (!) and I am finally getting around to sharing this. It's probably mostly for me to remember these moments... Because I still haven't written in her baby book... I planned on being more on the ball with that than I had been with Halle. Oops.
This is also an update for our family and close friends all the way on the other side of the country. (We miss you! x)
So here's bits & pieces about Autumn from her debut until now :)
You can read her birth story here.
At her home visit with the nurse, during the first few days, her b* level hormone (the one associated with jaundice) was high. We had a follow up appointment with public health the next day and another after that. She didn't have jaundice and the issue resolved itself... She was less than a week and it already seemed like we were appointment pros!
Then came her official one week appointment at the maternity clinic. She was a few ounces short of her birth weight so we scheduled yet another appointment for the following week just to be weighed.
Luckily the girl is a champ at breast feeding! Almost too efficient as she feeds quickly and then becomes very gassy... She gained about an ounce each day by the next weigh in.
The gas made lying her down to sleep after feedings a struggle at first.
The girl can burp like a grown man!
And was a non-stop poop machine!
This was really hard on her sensitive skin causing bad diaper rash. So bad, we were given a prescription diaper cream at our follow up appointment.
Her rash only seemed to get worse from there and was becoming painful for her. It left us feeling pretty helpless and worried. We checked in with the doctor, yet again, when she was three weeks and were given another prescription cream.
The new cream, plus some diaper routine changes, and taking extra care of her lil tush, seemed to make a difference. I think she will always have sensitive skin but hopefully we can be proactive in preventing it from getting that bad again. It was really sad to see her so sore :(
On the bright side of that doctor visit, she was already weighing 9 lb 11 oz!
She was growing so quickly!
And it kind of seemed like she had been around longer than just a few weeks. Maybe because we were busy with company in town? She had already been on multiple outings and had her visit to a play place we frequent at just four days old!
Our family being here at first, helped with her love for being held, as there was always someone up for some cuddles.
She spent the first month or so in our room in a bassinet. But she didn't like it. She was almost too big for it from the start, as her arms would hit the sides. And she seemed to hate being swaddled. All that combined with the gas, made for (unplanned) sleeping in our bed or on my chest many nights.
We soon switched to using the play yard instead of the bassinet. This gave her more room to get comfortable.
At 7 weeks we transitioned her to her own room in a crib. She did great! Her sleep has been continuing to improve since :)
Her nickname is Miss Piggy <3 When she was first born she had a lot of mucus making her congested. She sounded like a little pig! Later we realized she also snorted if she cried hard or on other random occasions. The fact she's a hungry girl and feeds so well also makes little miss piggy a suitable name ;)
At her first check up with our family doctor, around 6 weeks, she was up to 12 lb!
She loves tummy time! So much so that she fell asleep on her play mat one day. She may be a belly sleeper like her sister some day.
Autumn has also spent more time snuggled up with her head on my shoulder (in a burping position.) This helps with the gas after feedings. So I think the pressure on her tummy is comfortable for her.
She travels and sleeps great in the car seat and in our boba wrap and carrier.
Overall she is a pleasant baby! Not much crying. Only when she is hungry or gassy. Give her some cuddles and a sway from side to side and she's good.
She got one wear out of all of her newborn outfits! And I had to pack away all the itty bitty cuteness once again.
By two months she was busting out of 0-3 month clothes and moved up to size 3-6 months.
At her two month immunization appointment, (which was a bit late closer to 11 weeks,) she weighed in at 13 lb 13 oz!!
Her first sleep through the night happened around 12 weeks (and it was fantastic!)
This was around the time she started smiling and cooing. Especially for Aunt Melissa ;) who was visiting in December.
By three months she was becoming much more sturdy and strong. Trying to hold her head up and preferring to be sitting up in someone's lap. Lots of movement with hands and legs. And interest in beginner toys that make sounds.
She loves holding on & manipulating fabrics like receiving blankets, burp clothes or mommy's scarves.
Autumn is a giggly girlie and ticklish under her chin and by her chubby thighs.
Adores watching her big sister play :) and it is the best.thing.ever. when Halle makes her laugh <3
At her four month immunization appointment she weighed 16 lb 3 oz! This past week, I unpacked size 9 month clothes. I can't believe how quickly she is growing! - So big!!!
I can see two bottom teeth starting to surface too! She has been drooling like crazy. And always putting her fists in her mouth. Or spitting bubbles on her chin.
Between all the growing and teething she has such a happy disposition. She's kind of a dream baby! The gas went away after the first couple months. The feedings are pretty regular and quick. She hardly cries. She has started to show signs of a "schedule" and is ready for bed around the same time each night. Most of the time (since 3 months) she sleeps through the night or only wakes once for a quick nursing sesh. (Most of the time, of course there will be the occasional fussy time.) But I must say I cannot complain about her awesomeness ;) Not to mention she gets cuter by the day. Although I supposed my opinion is a tad bias.
So there you have it, folks - all about Autumn.
I think I'm due for a big sissy update soon!
Lots more stories to come... And I won't wait four months before the next edition.
Thanks for reading xo
