Better

You may have heard by now that I've joined a movement for better. A movement for change in an industry that is poorly regulated. A movement that empowers people to learn and question their choices. A movement that inspires us to use our voices to advocate for better.

If you've been following along this space, you've probably seen me dabble in a few things over the years. From blogging and vlogging (I'm going to get back to it!), to focusing on family, to growing businesses and sharing favourite brands. All of these things have played instrumental roles in bringing me to where I am today. They have provided lessons along the way or have been stepping stones to uncovering what it is I am truly meant to do and share.

I think I have been attracted to various opportunities, or had events happen in my life, because of the role I am meant to have in this life. I have always been a natural leader drawn to connection and purposeful work that helps others. This has taken trying different things to find the best fit. Which I think everyone can relate to...

At the core, of all I do, bettering myself and those around me has been a leading principle. I am obsessed with growth! I have always enjoyed personal development and learning new things. I like pushing my comfort zone and questioning norms. So, it's not surprising I was attracted to this movement.

I realized it's very much aligned with the vision I have for this blog.

A place for community and connection.

A place to inspire.

A place to help you tap in to your values and create a life that you love!

Picture

When I partnered with Beautycounter, that's exactly what I was seeking! I am loving the community of purpose driven leaders I have connected with. I am loving the educating and advocacy we are doing as the leaders in clean beauty! We are changing the industry to have safer practices and better regulation. It's work I can be proud of!

We use products as an engine of change to be a voice for better. Ranging from skincare, make up to bath & body, that are clean and safe for you. They are carefully sourced, efficiently screened and high performing! Beauty should be good for you and everyone deserves safer products. The fact that this brand is so much more than sales, is what drew me in. You don't have to shop Beautycounter to create change... but I am confident their movement will inspire you to seek ways to make your life and world better!

And beyond me joining them, this blog is also a space I can use to bring change! A place to help you grow and better your life. I had a moment of realization of all that on my walk today. These dreams of mine, are mine for a reason. When I recorded those vlogs a couple years ago, I wanted to share the same message. I was promoting the idea of better. The idea of being a changemaker or a leader in your life by living the way that best served you! Not the life, or the ways, you thought things should be.

Then I, myself, got hung up on all that. I stepped back to spend more time with my growing family. I second guessed some things. And soon I felt stuck in a place where I wasn't growing and bettering myself. And I didn't show up...

I'm feeling clear again. This movement. This work. These products and acts of SELF CARE! have helped me to become in tune again. I'm back on that path to better. I'm ready to share more and to help inspire others along the way!

I hope you can sense my excitement! It means so much to me to have you follow along... as I grow and learn and change my mind about things! Because CHANGE is OKAY! and change is important!

So who's ready for BETTER?! Let's do this!

What I've Been Writing Lately

5/7/2020

Hi friend,

How are you?

It's almost midnight and I'm cozied up in my living room chair. Laptop open, ready to type.

I'm wide awake.
Honestly, my body is pulsing with creative energy!
And my heart is just so happy to be feeling this way again.

… It's been a long time.

And while you might wonder how I could possibly be feeling this way during pandemic quarantine life? I don't know the answer. (Or maybe I do... Story for another time.)

Part of me wishes it were morning with the sun shining in. I'd have a hot cup of coffee in hand and I'd be staring over at you, here, having a real, in-person chat with me. I'm longing to hear all that's been going on with you during this time. And I can't wait to share how I've been feeling and what's been coming up for me. It feels good to get things out of my head and speak them in to the world...

Instead, you're not here.

However!
We are connected.

I'm here.
You're reading.
And we're both wanting a moment to be seen, to relate, to vent, to smile, to do all the things that us humans crave from each other.

Ya feel me?

And so, since we are in fact on other sides of screens. Maybe other sides of the city. Maybe other sides of the country. Or maybe other sides of the world, who knows?!

Let me tell you about some of the things I've been writing while I haven't been writing here.

I'm talking about some of the things I write in my journal or have written so far in 2020.

Since we can't connect in person, my thought is that these ideas might prompt you to connect with YOURSELF, and try some writing of your own. (Please keep reading ;))

Halle Kay’s “Say Something” poster. What will you say?! ;)

Surely, you can find something from this list that lights a spark to write. And if not write, reflect. Talk to someone. Meditate. Post online. Something.

We need to connect. And sometimes connecting to ourselves is the best thing we can do to better show up for others.

*hint, hint* at what's been happening for me during all this.

Let me know if you try some writing of your own. I'd love to hear about it!

AND if there's anything on these random topics you'd like to hear more about, please reach out.

As always, thanks for reading. It feels so good to be "here" with you.

Jordan: 18 Months

As a follow up my last post, here's an update on one of my favourite ages and stages! And I believe Jordan John's first official blog update. I miss documenting these moments as they are some of my favourite blogs to revisit. They always seem to be a reader favourite, too.

So here goes! Some notable things as of late off the top of my head.

Picture
Picture

One and a half years but convinced he's a school aged kid when he's hanging at the playground after school with his big sisters! Jordan loves to climb and tease mommy leaning out over every opening and hanging on the bar above the slide. Sometimes it's to give me smooches though which is the best thing ever!

He loves when Halle pushes him on the tire swing and mom's pushing simply doesn't measure up to sister spins. He happily prances around outside excitedly in his new boots. Not always a fan of mittens and comes to me to blow hot air on his cold fingers.

He's always been mommy's boy but loves to ask his sister's for help, too. Often for snacks or things he shouldn't have... Already pulling fast ones on mama...

Picture

He has become much more of a dad's boy since turning one! I love having a boy and noticing the differences as they grow. Jordan also seems to like being around other boys, too, which is understandable in a house full of girls half the time!

He is very friendly and says hi to new faces. His big brown eyes and sweet grin win people over all the time!

He absolutely loves babies and gives his younger baby buddy perhaps the biggest smiles of all!

He has been chill since the day he was born and easy going as long as he's not tired or hungry. Hanger runs in the family ;)

Picture

Jordan is becoming
more of a picky eater as he gets older. He's a breakfast lover like the rest of our family and has a sweet tooth too. And is known to get messy.... Annnnd loves to throw anything he doesn't want across the room or on top of a looming husky.

As you can probably see, picky or not, eating is not an issue because this boy is big! He's 90th percentile for height, 30ish pounds, wearing mostly 2T and size 7 shoes and is often mistaken for older

Picture

Jordan learns tons from his sisters which has it's pros and cons. He's a little sponge lately copying actions and words! The worst of which is climbing or getting in to left open cupboards or off limit rooms. We have had our fair share of adventures of food messes, toilet troubles and not for baby items gone wrong. Not to mention climbing in bathtubs and flipping furniture... the list goes on but this post would become much too long ;)

Picture
Picture

His "adventures" make him no stranger to a bump or bruise, a spill or outfit change... In the month of October, he had two trips to emergency! One to have his eyebrow glued after splitting it open on a coffee table. One for an xray and a broken toe!

In lighter news of growing up too fast, he is talking much more, becoming a sweet helper and so fun to play with!

He has quite a few words these days. From basic communication like hi and bye, up, down, more, etc. to body parts and animal sounds. He also loves to sing and Happy Birthday is his favourite song! And some of the cutest communicating he does is without words... it's the little hand gestures to "come on," pointing to things or blowing kisses!

Jordan loves helping me around the house. He likes doing dishes and laundry and might even be the best listener of doing what he's asked some days ;)

We have a lot of fun together because of his easy going nature. He loves to be on the move dancing and running but can slow down to play too. I love when we snuggle up to read a book. It's the pefect mix of rough and tumble play and quiet contentment.

Jordan is naturally athletic and we hope he plays all the sports! He loves hockey, has a great arm, and is quite the little soccer player. "Ball" was one of his first words and he loves them no matter the shape or size. He can also jump up and down already and has amazing coordination for his age!

Then there's the days when all he wants to do is dump things...

Legos on the floor. LOL dolls (and millions of little pieces) on the floor. Puzzle pieces on the floor. Full spice jars on the floor. Just a dumper of ALL the things!

Picture

Jordan also loves playing in the tub and is obsessed with the bath! He has been known to join daddy or Halle in the shower too.

As you can probably gather we are all pretty in love with our youngest family member! It is certainly not all sunshine and rainbows but isn't it funny that none of that stuff seems important when I sit to write this post. As soon as I hit publish, there will probably be a hundred other things that come to mind for me to add...

Picture

Like the fact he still doesn't sleep through the night. Often falls to the floor if he doesn't get what he wants. Is obsessed with his nummy (pacifier.) Puts up a fight to get in the carseat sometimes... Just to give you some perspective...

But let's flip this back again to end on a good note, shall we?

Not sleeping means more cuddles in our bed and holding on to that babyness a little longer.
Flailing on the floor, is simply expressing his emotions. and hey, he's still cute ;)
Pacifier? I'm not really worried what everyone thinks about that and sometimes it just keeps the peace.
Car seat fight? Can't blame a guy who has to do  school drop offs/pick ups 3 times a day!

If you ask me, this little munchkin does so well going with the flow in our family and fits in just perfect!

I hope you enjoyed this update and insight into his sweet personality. Thanks for reading XO

Who wants to hear about the big sissies?!
