While some people dreaded post-secondary intrapersonal courses, I kinda liked them. Yes, sometimes it's hard to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, but when you do, good things can happen. At least for me.
A text from one of my courses referenced the importance of "sharpening your saw." It means you should continue to learn new things or try challenging yourself to be better at something.
With this in mind, and my own decision to "chase fun" and "choose time", I set out some things to try this month and I did.
And I added some for fun "new things" too :)

Reading: The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays & Stories by Marina Keegan
I just finished this book and really enjoyed it. While searching for a summer read, I found it online at Indigo listed as both a 'Heather's Pick' and 'Best of 2014 So Far'. The description caught my eye as it talked about the authors hope-filled stories and her promise as an upcoming writer. Tragically, days after graduating from Yale, with a job waiting for her at the New Yorker, Marina died in a car accident. She was my age.
Although these details in itself seemed intriguing, the stories were good and thought provoking. I liked the non-fiction best as I can really relate to that maybe naïve, yet optimistic thinking she seemed to write about. The fictions were good, too. They varied in content, which made it seem like I was reading stories I might not be interested in normally. Yet they had similarities in their voice which was easy to read and kept me interested.

Learning: How to Crochet
I have had a major creative itch lately. Reading new books. Writing this blog. But I wanted a project! To make something. To learn a new skill. So after much envy and intrigue at crochet talents I follow on instagram or the cutest crochet baby wear on pinterest, I decided crochet was what I wanted to learn.
It's a fairly low start investment, with the main supplies being a hook and yarn. I purchased a beginner crochet guide book and referenced some online tips and tutorials. So far I'm in the very beginning stages, just practicing how to make the correct stitches. The book has been fairly easy to understand but I also know I'm a visual and audio learner and keep thinking how much quicker I could learn with a teacher to guide me and someone I could ask questions. But I'm up for the challenge of teaching myself! (Any beginner tips from experienced crocheters are welcome though!)
It's slow and steady but I like learning something new... and dreaming about all the creations I want to make. But at this rate maybe by the time baby is born I will have managed to stitch a hat ;)

Doing: Stretches
If I remember, throughout the day I try to make time to stretch. Usually while Halle is playing and I'm with her on the floor. Just simple stretches, like reaching for my toes or arms from side to side. Having a baby and then being pregnant again fairly soon after takes a toll on the body. Stretching just feels good! Something so simple, yet really satisfying. I'm hoping it will help me limber up for labour and it also helps me to focus on breathing, which was a lifesaver for me delivering Halle.

Smelling: Bath & Body Works Summer Soaps
I picked up a batch of B&BW Summer collection hand soaps and they smell too good not to add to this list ;) I swear they make me do a better job of washing my hands just because the scents are so dreamy. 'Perfect Beach Day' is my fave. I'm a sucker for coconut anything and it makes me want to have the perfect beach day every day.
Planning: Baby Girls Nursery
I'm so excited that I can "nest" this time around. Moving right at the end of my last pregnancy made it so I couldn't decorate Halle's nursery before her arrival. I'm really excited to style this baby's room soon and have pretty much decided on all the major details as far as paint, décor and furniture. And of course I will be sharing my inspiration and progress here, so stay tuned for that :)
Can you believe the month is almost over? We are just about halfway through the year! I plan on doing a similar post to this again next month. Feel free to join in too and try something new yourself! Share away in comments :)
PS. Both Indigo and Bath and Body Works are having huge SALES right now!! So go treat yourself!
