Steady pace weekends are the best! Not the hectic, too much to do, busy ones, rather the out & about doing fun stuff ones. Mix in the right amount of down time and add family company, good food & sunshine and Friday through Sunday gets even better!
My dad arrived in town last Tuesday for a couple days of meetings. He extended his trip and stayed at our place Thursday until Monday.
All of the girls grandparents live on the other side of the country and it sucks that we don't get to see them and spend time with them on a regular basis. (Besides FaceTime - thank goodness for that!) Fortunately, Poppa (my dad) makes a business trip twice a year to Calgary. We are lucky to have this time with him, even if only for a long weekend.
When we picked him up at the airport Tuesday evening it was -10* but by Thursday afternoon, when we picked him up from the hotel, it was +10* and sunny! This made great conditions for walks to the playground. One of many simple joys of having grandparents around. Since Halle Kay loves the park, it's a great way for Poppa to spend some time with her, get outdoors, see how much she has grown & is capable of now. It also gives us a little break :) We took it easy the rest of the night and ordered Chinese food for supper - always a good call.
On Friday, we enjoyed some more playground time at a different park. I had thought there was an outdoor event happening there but turns out it was smaller scale and indoors - guess the beautiful weather had spring on my mind! It was still great to get out for a walk with a change of scenery. For supper, my dad made 'baha bites'. They are his signature appetizer he makes every visit and for special get togethers at home.

I had planned to go to a friends house later that night for a 'mom's night in' dinner party. But surprisingly (cause I always look forward to our get togethers) passed on the night out for an early bedtime. Autumn had a slight head cold that week and wasn't 100%. Add teething to the mix and she had me waking up one too many times during the nights. I was exhausted and just not up for it.
Although I don't like missing out on girl time, I'm glad to have rested up cause Saturday was a busy day! We started off by exploring a neighbourhood we had never been before. We headed to Eau Claire Market where Halle played at the indoor playground, we browsed shops and grabbed a coffee. Then we headed out in the sunshine to the nearby Princes Island Park to enjoy some more (you guessed it) playground time!
Clearly, playground tours 2015 have officially begun ;) but hey I'm not complaining about this gorgeous weather in the first half of March!
And I really love being and playing outdoors and so does Halle. And I especially love seeing new neighbourhoods and being in the mix of people out and about in the city. I am really looking forward to more community exploring now that spring is coming. There really is so much to see and do in this city!

Saturday evening was date night! It's pretty much mandatory to take advantage of grandparents in town to babysit so we can have a night out.
The new things/new places theme continued for the day. We went to Kinjo for sushi. I had heard great things and read positive reviews and it did not disappoint! I have tried sushi a couple times at restaurants, and buy the grocery store variety every now and then, but I am still a beginner sushi eater ;) and likely a forever beginner at chop sticks haha but my skills are improving. Matthew has had sushi even less than I had but loved everything we ordered. He even tried octopus! The service was great and the environment was fun.
Since everything is so quick at a sushi place we had lots of time to kill before going to the movie theatre. So we went across the road to a pub for a drink. I had a coffee and baileys for my second dessert of the evening... Chatting and relaxing with a drink makes you appreciate how great it is to get out just the two of us.
To end off our night, we went to see American Sniper. It was our first time at the movies together since I was pregnant with Halle! It was really good! But intense in so many ways. I kept catching myself holding my breathe or all tensed up. And it's the kind of story that makes me feel so much. I could write a whole other post on all the emotions and thoughts it brought out... But I'll just say, go see it if you haven't already.

Sunday was a low key day, then my cousin and his family came over for supper. It was really nice to have some family company and chat over yummy food! I'm hoping to make get togethers with them more regular as we don't see them enough. Their son is also 6 months older than Halle, so they can be buddies!
Overall it was a great visit with Poppa! Filled with lots of outdoor fun and good food... And grand baby cuddles. Although his stay was short and sweet, we ended up booking a flight home for us in May. So we will get to see him and all the grandparents! I'm excited to introduce Autumn to family and friends. And for everyone to see how much Halle has grown in the past year. Also excited for additional free babysitters ;) The countdown is on!
